A
dance form thousands of years old with roots in spiritual dances.
The movements are natural to the body and are predominantly low-impact.
 Cherie
and Megan's Tuesday evening Slow Tribal Fusion Belly Dance Class:
This class will focus on fluidity and isolations. We will focus on
about two moves per class and variations on those moves. We will do lots
of drills to build muscle memory and increase confidence. You will also
learn to connect these movements in a lead and follow format so you can
create combinations all your own! All levels of experience are welcome.
Megan was
immediately captivated when she first saw belly dance at a renaissance
festival; the dancers were performing
American Tribal Style
(ATS) and Megan had never seen anything like it. Needless to say, she
was hooked. She chose to try out a class or two, and that has turned
into five years of study, along with a new love for the Fire Arts. She
has learned from an ATS/fusion troupe called Blue Moon in Raleigh NC,
and over the years she has also studied oriental as well as gothic belly
dance. Although Megan will always consider herself a student of this
dance as there is always something new to learn, she also shares her
knowledge of the art by teaching classes in Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio.
She is also a certified
ashtanga vinyasa yoga instructor as well as a licensed massage
therapist. Cherie Dawn has a sense of peace and tranquility in the aura that
surrounds her movements. Every time she moves the crowd is overwhelmed
with a positive vibe and an ever-glowing smile. Having studied a variety
of dance forms (including modern, point/ballet, hip hop, jazz, and tap)
all of her life, Cherie began learning the art of
tribal belly dance
in 2006, when she was also introduced to fire dancing. She now applies
fire to all things dance, as it has quickly become her passion.
Gwen's Wednesday
evening Beginner Plus Tribal Belly Dance Class: Open to students
with three months or more of belly dance experience. In each class 1-2 moves will be taught that
include upper and lower body movements. Students will be taught
technique, posture, presence and how to cue each move. Skillful cueing
guides the entire class to perform the same move with grace and
elegance. Music will be traditional and non-traditional.
There will be a brief warm-up and cool-down period in each class.
Walk-ins
are welcome.
Laura's
Thursday evening Beginning Cabaret Belly Dance Class: In this class
you will be learning Egyptian Cabaret bellydancing. We will go over the
basic Egyptian Cabaret moves, put the moves together, and then learn a
short choreography (which you can feel free to perform on your own at
anytime.) We will do improv and I will teach performance techniques. I
will also be teaching how to dance with props: veil, zills, cane, etc.
I have been dancing
for 10 years and teaching for 5. I have taught at three
belly dance studios and have danced with local bands and
performed in and around the tri-state area. My goal is to teach you
authentic Egyptian Cabaret and for you to perform in front of a live
audience (if that is your wish) but the main thing is that I want you to
have fun and get a little exercise. My classes are very supportive,
laid back and nonjudgmental. We all bring something special to
this dance
to share.
Saresa
has been dancing salsa since she was a child, first with her mother,
sister and other female family members. She continued to learn Salsa
dancing and Ladies Styling in Brooklyn, NY. She later found belly
dancing, both tribal and cabaret, in Manhattan after attending a hafla
and has combined both salsa and belly dancing techniques to create
Tribal Salsa Belly Fusion. This class will show you how to
dance confidently in a group and how to shine in the spotlight! Her goal
is to bring dancers back to the early roots of Salsa dancing before it
was brought to dance clubs, when groups of dancers and drummers would
dance and drum for each other; challenging each other in a playful way.
She wants dancers especially to find and express their sexy, sassy sides
in all forms of dancing. She is part of the troupe, Power of 3, a local
Gothic Belly dance troupe.
